What credit repair really is

Credit repair is the legal process of forcing the credit bureaus and the companies that report to them (called furnishers) to prove that every negative item on your report is 100% accurate, complete, and verifiable.

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA), every item on your credit report must be accurate, verifiable, and reported within legal time limits. If the bureau or the furnisher cannot verify an item exactly as it is reported, it must be corrected or deleted.

The five-step process we run for every client

Most people fail at credit repair because they send one generic dispute letter and give up. We run a documented, escalating campaign.

  • Step 1 — Pull all three reports (Experian, Equifax, TransUnion) and audit every line item.
  • Step 2 — Identify FCRA, FDCPA, and Metro 2 reporting violations on each negative account.
  • Step 3 — Dispute directly with the bureaus and simultaneously demand validation from the furnisher.
  • Step 4 — Escalate non-responses, 'verified' results, and re-inserted items with method-of-verification demands.
  • Step 5 — Rebuild: add positive tradelines, fix utilization, and protect the new score.

How long it takes

Bureaus have 30 days (45 in limited cases) to investigate. Most clients see their first deletions in 30–45 days, with the bulk of results landing between month two and month six.

Clients with moderately damaged credit commonly clear a large share of their negative items within the first six months. Results vary based on how many items you have and how aggressively furnishers respond.

The Bottom Line

You do not have to live with inaccurate reporting. Let a Crawford Elite specialist audit your report free and show you exactly what can come off.
