Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA)
Governs third-party collectors. You may demand written validation of any debt. Collectors cannot harass, misrepresent the debt, or contact you at prohibited times.
Credit Repair Organizations Act (CROA)
Protects consumers hiring credit repair help: written contracts, honest disclosures, no advance fees for unperformed work, and a three-day cancellation right.
Equal Credit Opportunity Act (ECOA)
Prohibits discrimination in lending and requires lenders to give you a specific reason for an adverse decision.
